Flooding in France: Orange storm alert declared

Flooding and heavy rains occurred in the Gard region in the south of France. An orange storm alert has been declared in the Gard, Herault, Ardeche, Drome and Isere regions where there is a risk of flooding and heavy rain.

 

According to the news in the French press, urban and inter-city roads were closed to transportation, train services were stopped due to heavy rains and flooding in the Gard region.

 

About 30 people were evacuated, stranded on the roads between the cities of Langlade and Gallargues-le-Montueux. About 60 cities in the region were affected by heavy rain and flooding.

 

60 people were evacuated from a camp in the city of Aimargues, which was severely affected by the flood.

 

While the floods and heavy rains in the region caused a minor injury to one person, the Governor's Office announced that a person was lost in the flood.

 

Visiting the Gard region, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said in a statement that they declared the region a natural disaster area.

 

Darmanin, who warned the French to be careful, thanked the 900 firefighters working in the region and said that the firefighters responded to the flood in 450 places.

 

The French Meteorological Administration announced that there is a risk of flooding and heavy rain in the Gard, Herault, Ardeche, Drome and Isere regions, therefore an orange storm alert has been declared in these regions.
